ROUTINE
This project takes place in Franklin Square park in Philadelphia. Franklin Square is a historic park in Philadelphia that is deprived of social fabric, open and empty. The concept of the design started with an analysis of Reading Terminal Market that allowed me to study the program of the market, routines, the relations between program and time, and events outside and people going to the market.
Then, I used that analysis to propose a routine for Franklin Square using program to add and variate activities – market, movie theater, and work out space - during different hours of the day to activate and populate the park. I focused on enclosure, scale, and program in order to develop multiple pavilions that concentrate the public life of the park.
Some pavilions are specifically shaped for the program, like the movie theater, others are more flexible to other activities like the work out space. All programs work together to create a routine that will activate the park in different places at different times of the day, bringing commuters, tourist, residents, and neighbors together.
