MOVEMENT

This is an exploration of a movement. It consists in exposing the diff erent sequence of movements in the rotation of a compass, revealing kinematic information through pictures. After exploring in two dimensions, a three dimensional articulation connecting the movement of the hand and the compass is made; this illustrates the relation in the sequence between these two active components of the movement.

Through a series of surfaces, extruded from the movement itself, the most representative ones are selected to become a more physical version of the exploration. The process of transformation shows a relationship between surfaces of the compass’s and hand’s movement. The final result is a model based on two structures that represent the relationship of the exploration, the movement of the compass (card-stock) and the movement of the hand (basswood).
